Dear Friends of I’m Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation,
Every year more than 72,000 young adults (ages 15-39) in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. One every eight minutes. A cancer diagnosis means a disruption in social life, professional or school life and a lot of unknowns. In 2007, The I’m Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation (i[2]y) was started to increase awareness of resources available to young adults so that they can get busy living.
2011 was a banner year for i[2]y in large part because of our donors continued financial support. That support and involvement has unquestionably resulted in our most impactful and influential year to date. You are a part of bringing about measurable social change and deeply meaningful impact for the next generation of young adult cancer survivors and caregivers.
A few highlights from 2011 include:
• The Stupid Cancer Show breaking 1.6M listens worldwide, celebrating it's 200th broadcast and winning "Most Innovative Use Of Social Media In The World" by the 2011 Classy Awards. [Press Release]
• In August, The Washington Post hailed i[2]y as "an unparalleled resource for cancer patients in their teens, 20s and 30s."
• The 4th Annual OMG! Cancer Summit had 600+ international registrations, 375+ in attendance and thousands watching the livestream. [Highlight Video]
• The 'Stupid Cancer Boot Camp' program held successful events in Buffalo, Chicago, Philadelphia and New Orleans
• More than 75 'Stupid Cancer' social events, happy hours and meet-ups were held in cities across the United States and Canada
• Team Stupid Cancer returned for its second year and took the 2011 NYC 1/2 Marathon by storm raising more than $50,000!
• The Stupid Cancer Forums have become one of the most active online young adult support communities with more than 1,200 members in two years
• The Stupid Cancer Blog was relaunched as a new content gateway featuring several contributing young adult survivor bloggers and a blogroll featuring more than 100 young adult survivor blogs
As we approach our 5th birthday in January 2012, we can proudly say that we have touched millions of lives and maintain our status as the nation's largest support community of young adult survivors, caregivers and advocates affected by cancer.
We need your help more than ever.
To continue as the number one cancer organization for young adults, we need your help. All of our hard work is entirely possible because of your gracious support. Please make i[2]y a part of your holiday giving this season. Your 100% tax-free financial contribution will:
• Wrap our arms around even more survivors and empower them to get busy living.
• Directly support the Stupid Cancer Show
• Continue to provide free Stupid Cancer Boot Camps across the country
• Keep our award-winning website up and running
• Allow the OMG! Cancer Summit to stay discounted for all attendees.
At i[2]y, we hold no one's disease above anyone else's. With all things equal, the playing field is leveled when stupid cancer comes along and you are just trying to live your life in your 20s and 30s. There are no "good" cancers. Benign brain tumors can be just as devastating as malignant ones. Issues in isolation, fear, relationships, fertility, parenting, caregiving, insurance and such are equally shared. We are one community. We are hundreds of thousands strong.
